Germany - Well Logging
Use of Well-Logging Methods in Environment Protection Projects
Well-logging measurements of soil and groundwater physical parameters were applied at a German automobile industry landfilling site for to survey potential contaminat leaks from the waste to the landfill surroundings. The network of existing monitoring wells was used for the measurements performance. Application of a set of electrical, radioactive and hydrometric methods enabled to obtain data on zonal groundwater movement, on groundwater flow direction and velocity in separate zones, on hydraulic relation between the zones, and on indication of hydrochemical anomalies. By interpreting the geophysical data the knowledge of geometrical distribution of hydraulic parameters in the landfill bedrock and its surroundings has been put more precisely, potential groundwater flow preferential paths were defined, and suspected hot spots of contaminats leak were indicated for further site-specific investigation.
